At Dereham Church of England Junior Academy, we teach spelling sessions three times a week. In these, we look closely at different rules and patterns of words in the English language and those words that don’t follow them! We follow the Spelling Shed spelling scheme which has a clear focus on the orthography, morphology and etymology of words in the English language. These lessons correspond with the spelling overview that your child brings home each half term  As part of their weekly homework, children are expected to practice their spellings on Spelling Shed for a set amount of time (in Years 3 and 4, a minimum of 2 x 10-15 minutes each week and in Year 5 and 6, a minimum of 30 minutes each week). The game supports the children to learn their spellings through a range of fun games which can be set at different challenge levels to help commit the spelling of their words to their long term memory.
